great stay

fine decor downtown location comfortable bed helpful staff
the building boasts fine decor and character, a location right downtown next to the botanic gardens. the bed was comfortable with high quality linens. i appreciated the room, clean and stylish (it was a nice experience). the staff was helpful in arranging a cake in the room for a birthday.
The breakfast room reminded me of a hostel. It had limited variety and no eggs. i found the timing of the room service could be better adapted to breakfast times. the gym had only two treadmills and a weight bench.
Rooms
9/10
the room featured tea selections and cookies. the room was furnished well. the room and bathroom had elements designed for people with disabilities, so everything was low level, it was quite different.
Dining
8/10
the breakfast included a good selection of items. i packed a hot mocha to go before leaving (it was tasty). the breakfast area is located on the third floor, it offers a pleasant start to the day.
Facilities
9/10
the hotel is located within the canterbury university buildings. the lobby area had a pleasant atmosphere. the grounds added to the overall experience, offering a beautiful and historical feel, so i enjoyed a walk.

the location rocks being super close to town! strolling in the gardens was a total breeze from here. the building's a stunner and my room was gorgeous, a killer spot to chill. the shower and bathroom? amazing!
the absence of drawer storage in my prestige room meant i lived out of my suitcase , it was slightly inconvenient

Decent Stay in Historic Building

historic building great staff uncomfortable bed hard couch
The building is a landmark with a lot of history. Its location is central but super quiet (very important for good rest) and close to the botanic gardens. The staff was excellent, offering great service.
The bed was not comfortable as two singles were pushed together. The couch was not designed for relaxation, being very upright and hard. I also observed the carpet needed a proper clean.

Amazing Architecture and Central Location

ceiling heights classy bathrooms
The building stands as a amazing historical landmark. The hotel has cathedral-level ceiling heights in the rooms and classy bathrooms. I found easy parking and friendly staff, further enhancing my stay.
The breakfast room was very small. It was also easily filled to capacity, leaving little space between guests.
Location
9/10
The hotel benefits from its proximity to key attractions. It is centrally located. The gorgeous Botanic Gardens are right across the road, nice for easy access to serene and quiet surroundings. Some excellent restaurants are just steps away.

insufficient blinds limited hanging space
The building itself is definitely excellent. Its historical significance is clear.
The room I booked, a Prestige Skylight Room, had issues with the skylight blinds. They did not fully block out the morning light. This meant the room became bright very early in the morning, around 5 am. Limited hanging space and a lack of drawers meant I had to live out of my suitcase . The breakfast was also quite disappointing. The room felt small and cramped.
